Murphy's Law

Ever thought how apt and frequent Murphy's Law can be? When anything (bad stuff normally) pops up...ppl (or those who know the term) will go 'ah....Murphy's Law! Darn!' Or for those who don't...they'll probably just say ' Darn, i knew this would happen!' Stuff like, when u're in the shower, that expected phonecall HAS to come (which btw you've waited for for hours) or that someone has to ring the doorbell.
Anyway, this situation cropped up today when i was on the way to tuition. Normally, at this round-a-bout, thing's get all jammed up and i'll always be almost late. So today, i decided to hop it at the round-a-bout and travel the remaining journey on foot (excellent decision...i might say). So...as i approached my destination, i see...my mom zooming past me, arriving b4 me. Just on the day i decided to walk, there was no jam (tsk tsk..of all days). I wonder why...it might have something to do with Bulan Ramadhan.
So there are a whole lot of examples anyone can give you. But has anyone ever thought where on earth did Murphy's Law originate? I've given it some thought, n have duly decided that Murphy's Law only applies when you believe in it. It doesn't exist. In a way, its a bit like religion, Christians know that Jesus exists because they believe that He does. Same goes for Muslims and Buddhist and Hinddhus and what not.
Anyhow, back to Murphy's Law, take the phone call example, so the phone rings what you're in the shower...you curse your luck and say that Murphy's Law has struck again. But it has somehow slipped our minds that there were tens of times that the phone rings when we're NOT in the shower. How bout those, eh? Ever considered ur luck then?
This is actually similiar to this ' Why me?' phenomona. When somting bad happens its 'why me?' but when anything good happens to you ...'Why you?'
This is the basis of the 'Count Your Blessings' slogan. (hmm..is this called a slogan?)
Well, i have been doing jus that. And i really thank God for all that's happened in my life...even the bad, cos i realised that it probably turn out for the best eventually.
I don't think this should be confused with optimism...i'm definitely a pessimist. And i think that 'half-full ...half-empty cup thing' doesn't work in rating a pessimist or an optimist. Well, logically, if the cup was at first full...then you poured out half its contents...then i would say that its now half empty. On the contrary, if the cup was empty and you poured sumthing in it...then it'll be half full now..rite? see...the question's too vague and subjective. Anyway, it doesn't work anymore these days cos everyone knows what it's about and it becomes a choice.
Once again, back to Murphy's Law, so i think that this Law is a reflection of how self-centred human beings are. The whole 'on-going's of life..revolves around themselves and that's that.
But, that's human nature... and i like Murphy's Law.
