social non-skills

TOnite i went wit my family to 3 open houses...

FIrst one up was at my next door neighbour's. And guess who i saw there? the one n only Nicol David, world no one squash champ. So as i helped myself to the satays i managed to squeak a few word to her,

Me: you're nicol david ?
SHe noddes
(sumthing like that la...cos obVIOusly, the question was rhetorical)
Me: Congratulations!
(SHakes her hand)
Me: We're so proud of you! (giggles nervously)
Nicol: thanks!

Okay, so it was the laMEST conversation ever...at that point, all i could think of was a corny "so proud of you" crap. But hey, at least the shortnest of it din make the gal too uncomfortable.
Now that i think about it, i want to laugh, i'm surprised sHE didn't.

I'm so lame.

THen we went to my mom's kindergarten friend's house. NOthing happened there cept for the time when i spoke in malay to a Filipino maid asking her for the 'tandas'. Scary part was, when she looked at me blurly, i wondered fleetingly if she were a guest and not a maid at all...yikes. Hate these situations.

Then off to my mom's fren's house where i continued to be my 'social' self. By that time, my 'social manna' was running low, what wit the adults trying to get us young ppl to talk to each other.
In the end, i spoke to this nice girl of the same age...we spoke nearly entirely in cANtoNESE!! I'm proud of myself to have lasted so long... social manna at an all time low cos of it.

I hate small talk...lots of brain energy needed to think up the next possible topic of conversation if the current one runs out. duh...
(note of self: avoid marrying politicians n VIPs)

Uni starting in 11 days time...NOOOOO!
